5 months!

Mr. Mason is officially 5 months old.  Where does the time fly?

This month has been the most developmental by far!!!  Mason has become more social, he is always talking.  He also has "filled out"!  He has thunder thighs and cheeks so fluffy!  Adorable!  He is grabbing at things and playing away!  He also had his first roll finally...and then didn't do it again for three weeks!!  Maybe it's because I screamed so loud when he first did it.  There is nothing Mason hates more than tummy time....we basically have to leave him on his tummy and listen to him cry for 10 minutes while he practices being on his tummy.  It is so hard to listen to your baby cry, but he really has to do it.  So this weekend I prepared for the crying...but all of sudden he rolled.  I was like, okay...so maybe one roll a week?  Um no, this child hasn't stopped.  I put him on his tummy and he immediately rolls over.  I guess he finally figured out how to not do so much tummy time! He also can sit up with a little bit of help.
In other news, Mason started drinking rice cereal in his bottle.  Last week we tried to feed it to him with a spoon, but he is not a fan to say the least.  He acts like I am feeding him liver when I try to put a spoon in his mouth!  His facial expression is priceless to say the least.  This picture I think was when we put the bowl away! :-)

Another "big" events this month was his first Halloween.  Of course he was a giraffe.  His favorite animal by far....or Mommy's at least! :-)  He was a bit irritated at his costume because it was hot, but he was still cute none the less.  His brother-cousin came to trick or treat at our house- he was an adorable fireman.

Mason went to his first birthday party- his cousin turned 3!  He got all dressed up.

Last week Mason's daycare had a Thanksgiving program.  Mason was a pumpkin.  He was mesmorized by all the people.

Mason is 4 months old

"Toots" as we like to call him turned 4 months old this Tuesday.  What a big boy he is.  We went to the dr. yesterday, and it was good news on his weight! :-)  He is in the 50th percentile for weight, 50th for head circumfrence, and 75th for length.  He is a long little boy for sure.  Poor baby cried for only about 2 minutes after he got his shots and then fell asleep.  I definitely think it's harder on me than on him.  The dr. was very pleased with his growth.  We had to confess that we switched to soy....she was against it, but she was pleased that he is doing better.  She also said we can start to add a bit of rice ceral to his bottles to thicken them so he doesn't spit up as much.  She said he probably isn't ready to eat solids quite just yet, but that when we are ready, we can gradually introduce rice cereal in a bowl and see what happens.
Meanwhile, he sure is "talking" up a storm.  ALL he does now is vibrate his lips (I wish I could describe it better)!  Even when he is upset he does that.  Needless to say Shawn and I have stopped doing that to him, we sure don't want him to think that is normal conversation...ha ha!  I keep singing to him "ma ma da da rovie", let's hope one of those will stick!  He still isn't rolling over quite yet, but he is sure trying.  And who would have thought that feet could be SO interesting!  I would have to say that his feet are his favorite "toy" right now!  He is drooling up a storm too, and of course everything goes in his mouth.  We really have to watch out for that now.  Mason still loves to be outside and to watch his big brother chase his ball.  He loves for us to read to him and of course to hold him.  His favorite part of the day is still bath time so he can splish splash!  He also still loves daycare.  But when I pick him up and he recognizes me and smiles so big, it truly melts my heart!  He better love his Mommy!

Mason Phillip

Whoa it has taken me nearly 2 months to even post my first blog...maybe that is a sign that this might not be so easy to keep up with, but I am hoping I do.
First, I wanted to start a blog so I can remember everything sweet little Mason Phillip does.  He is growing up so fast that when I blink my eyes he does a new "trick".  Also, if the Lord blesses us with another child one day, maybe I can look back at my blogs and remember what to do, ha ha...like I will have time to read old blogs...a girl can dream right?
The first three months FLEW by!

Month 0-1:  Sleepless nights, hormonal imbalances, overwhelmed feelings, and recovering from a c-section pretty much describe my first month as a new mother.  While I am beyond thankful for our sweet little boy, it was a HUGE adjustment!  I was not used to staying at home all day, not getting sleep, not having independence, etc.  Also, poor little Mason has reflux, so he was quite fussy pretty much always!  My mom helped out for two weeks which was amazing, and thankfully Shawn did everything he could to help me out with Mason and the house.  I honestly just try to block the first month out...if I did remember every detail, I probably would not want to go through it again, but now I know that God let's mothers forget just how hard it is at first, or else we would all be only children!

Month 1-2:   Still adjusting to life with a new born.  From the beginning our little boy has been SO alert.  At week 6 he started to smile.  The first smile let me know that everything hard had been worth it!  Still not sleeping well really, still super fussy!  I breast fed for the first 5 weeks of his life...and then I had to quit for several reasons.  I still regret it, but in the end I think it was better for both of us.  He was put on this SUPER stinky formula- Alimentum.  Think rotted salty potatoes smell!  Ewww- poor boy.  It is one of the most broken down formulas out there.  The dr. recommended that we use this due to his allergies and bad reflux.  Not much improvement wtih fussiness, but the doctor said he would grow out of his reflux and colic.  Let's just say this month he didn't!  I also started going back to work when he was 8 weeks old.  I hated leaving him at daycare, but his teachers said that he did really well and that he enjoyed looking at the other little babies.  We have definitely discovered that he likes to be entertained...he doesn't really like to just sit and do nothing.

Month 2-3:  Mason is still doing well at daycare.  He had issues gaining weight, probably from his reflux.  He gradually has been gaining weight, but this month he started to fuss while we fed him, usually it was just after.  SO frustrating.  He started taking prevacid in month 2, but I really don't know how much it helped.  This month he started cooing up a storm.  My favorite thing to do was to come home and sit him on my lap and let him "tell" me what happened during the day at daycare.  He LOVES being outside!  He also started to really notice his big brother Rovie.  No matter how bad he felt, if we took him outside, he would immediately calm down.  Praise the Lord for outside. I can't really remember much else, everything runs together when a person is so busy!

Month 3-4: What a doll this boy is!  He got baptized in September, and I promise that was his first day to not be really fussy!  Maybe it was because he got held the entire day or maybe it was because he was now Baptized, but it was amazing...him not fussy- it does exist!!!!  His personality has really started to develop!  He really laughs out loud now...we do anything to make him laugh.  His favorite thing is for his mommy and daddy to rap to him.  Ha ha- can you picture me and Shawn rapping to him?  As mentioned before, he loves being entertained and loves watching everything we do.  Still doing really well at daycare!  We recently switched him to soy formula.  The dr. didn't want us to, but we heard it worked really well for another baby, so we gave it a shot.  The verdict is stil out, but so far so good.  He doesn't push away his bottles (probably becasuse he doesn't have to eat rotted potato smelling milk) and daycare said he doesn't fuss as much.  I am hoping this is the answser to his upset tummy!  We shall see.  But we are definitely having some good days now!  Oh and last night he started to vibrate his lips and make sound (we do this to make him laugh and he now he figured it out on his own)!  It is BEYOND cute!  He also LOVES bath time- I am pretty sure it's his favorite time of the day.  He likes to kick the water and splish splash!

I just have to say we love this little boy with all of our heart.  He has been the biggest blessing in our life by a million.  While having a baby has been a trillion times harder than college, the cpa exam, etc etc, it has been worth every second!!!!!  He will be four months old in 5 days... I can't believe it!!!!!

Please share your comments or suggestions if you have any, I would love to hear from you!!
